Japan’s Foreign Minister meets with Nepal’s top leaders | Global News

Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko’s visit to Nepal on Sunday marked a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. During her day-long visit, Kamikawa met with Nepal’s top leadership, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, President Ramchandra Paudel, and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’.

The discussions between Kamikawa and the Nepalese leaders focused on a wide range of issues, including economic and development cooperation, cultural ties, and people-to-people relations. Both sides emphasized the need to enhance support and cooperation in Nepal’s major developmental priorities, such as agriculture, hydro-power, infrastructure development, and tourism sectors.

As 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations, the leaders highlighted the importance of commemorating this milestone with high-level exchanges and various events. Prime Minister Prachanda expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for its consistent support towards Nepal’s economic and social development over the years.

The Japanese embassy in Kathmandu expressed hope that Kamikawa’s visit would further strengthen the friendly relationship between Japan and Nepal. The discussions also touched upon broader issues of bilateral and mutual interests, including Nepal’s support in international elections at the United Nations and other multilateral forums where Japan is contesting.

Overall, Kamikawa’s visit underscored Japan’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Asia and deepening its ties with Nepal.
