Reading Time: < 1 minute

The King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals recently hosted its tenth Design Expo, showcasing the innovative projects of senior students aimed at solving real industry problems. President Mohammed Al-Saggaf commended the collaborative effort among students from different majors and emphasized the importance of pitching and presenting projects effectively.

Over 1,000 students participated in the expo, presenting 185 projects in various categories such as artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and healthcare technology. One standout project was an autonomous wheelchair utilizing electromyography technology.

The expo also recognized projects for their entrepreneurship, innovation, and humanitarian efforts. The most humanitarian project award went to a team of students who designed “Quick-Construct Housing for Refugees and the Impoverished,” offering durable and affordable shelter for those in need.

The Saudi-made project, assembled by a local company, can be built and lived in within three minutes, providing a solution for refugees in the Middle East. The team, consisting of students from different engineering disciplines, highlighted the simplicity and durability of their design.

Moving forward, the team plans to further develop the project to make a tangible impact in the real world. The Design Expo not only showcased the creativity and talent of the students but also highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and addressing real-world challenges.
