Iron Mountain Varsity Baseball Team Falls to Jeffers Jets 17-2

Iron Mountain faced a tough challenge against the Jeffers Jets in a varsity baseball game at Ranger Field on Thursday. Despite a valiant effort, the Mountaineers ultimately fell to the Jets with a final score of 17-2 in six innings.

Head coach Jeff McLean acknowledged the uphill battle his team faced against the high-powered Jeffers pitching staff. The game was characterized by walks, with Iron Mountain issuing 14 walks throughout the game. McLean emphasized the impact of mistakes against a strong opponent like the Jets, particularly highlighting Levi Frahm as a standout player.

Although the Mountaineers managed to keep the Jets at bay for the first two innings, the tide turned in the third inning when Iron Mountain struggled with walks and errors, allowing Jeffers to score six runs. Despite a rally in the fourth inning, the Mountaineers couldn’t close the gap, ultimately falling to a 17-2 defeat.

Coach McLean praised the resilience of his young team and emphasized the importance of building up their pitching staff for future games. With a focus on developing confidence and skill among his players, McLean remains optimistic about the team’s growth and potential.

The Mountaineers will look to bounce back in their upcoming games, with a doubleheader against Hancock and a match against Norway on the horizon. Despite the setback against Jeffers, Iron Mountain remains determined to improve and compete at a high level in the remainder of the season.
