Jewish-American political appointee steps down from Biden administration in a public resignation

Lily Greenberg Call, a Jewish-American political appointee in the Biden administration, has made a bold move by resigning in opposition to President Biden’s policies in Israel. In a public letter addressed to Department of the Interior Sec. Deb Haaland, Call expressed her deep concerns about the administration’s support for what she described as “Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”

“I can no longer in good conscience continue to represent this administration amidst President Biden’s disastrous, continued support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza,” Call wrote in her letter, which she shared on Twitter.

Call, who joined the Biden administration with the belief of fighting for a better America, highlighted the importance of economic prosperity, a healthy planet, and equal rights for all people. However, she felt compelled to step down due to her strong opposition to the administration’s stance on Israel.

She criticized President Biden for making Jews “less safe” by portraying them as “the face of the American war machine.” Call emphasized the need for Jewish safety without compromising Palestinian freedom and called for accountability from the United States in its relationship with Israel.

This resignation marks the fifth official to step down in protest since the Oct. 7 attack, reflecting the growing tension within the Democratic Party over Israel’s actions in Gaza. The White House has yet to respond to Call’s resignation.
