Joan Barrett, leader of Ozarks Technical Community College, announces retirement

After nearly three decades of dedicated service, Joan Barrett, the vice chancellor for student affairs at Ozarks Technical Community College, is set to retire in June. Barrett’s journey at the college began in 1996 when she was hired as a financial aid adviser and assistant registrar. Over the years, she took on various roles and responsibilities, eventually becoming the vice chancellor for student affairs in 2015.

Known for her caring and supportive nature, Barrett has been instrumental in improving access to higher education and career training for students at the college. OTC Chancellor Hal Higdon praised her empathetic leadership style, noting her ability to connect with and support everyone in her team.

Barrett’s impact on student affairs at OTC has been profound, with Higdon acknowledging her role in changing the culture of student services to better meet the needs of today’s students.
