Joe Biden assures Volodymyr Zelenskyy that US weapons will be delivered promptly

President Joe Biden has assured Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of rapid escalation in military aid to Ukraine once Congress approves a $95 billion security funding package this week. The pledge was made during a call on Monday, following the approval of the assistance by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

The funding package includes $60 billion in aid for Ukraine, along with support for Israel and the Indo-Pacific region. The Senate is expected to pass the bill on Tuesday or Wednesday, with President Biden set to enact it into law later in the week.

The White House stated that the new security aid will include long-range ATACMS missiles, ammunition, and other weapons systems to meet Ukraine’s urgent battlefield and air defense needs. President Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the impending military aid, stating that it will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and artillery capabilities.

The delay in US funding had previously caused setbacks for Ukrainian forces battling against Russian forces. The timely approval of the security funding package is seen as a significant step in improving Ukrainian military prospects for stabilizing the situation in the eastern region of the country.

President Biden had been advocating for new funding for Ukraine since last year, emphasizing the urgency of supporting Kyiv in defeating the Russian invasion. The swift action by Congress and the White House reflects a commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the face of ongoing conflict.
