Joel Edgerton Reveals He Missed Out on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Role Due to Misunderstanding Film’s Tone

Joel Edgerton, known for his roles in sci-fi titles like “Star Wars” and the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series, recently revealed that he missed out on the opportunity to play Star-Lord in the popular “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise. The role eventually went to Chris Pratt, who portrayed Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the superhero action comedy series directed by James Gunn under the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Edgerton admitted that he couldn’t quite grasp the tone of the film, unlike Pratt and the filmmakers. He expressed that he wasn’t sure how he could fit into the unique tone of the movie, which led to him not landing the role.

Despite missing out on the opportunity, Edgerton believes that everything worked out for the best and that Pratt was the perfect choice for the character. He acknowledged that the world is a better place with Pratt as Star-Lord and that he respects the casting decision.

Interestingly, Edgerton wasn’t the only actor who auditioned for the role of Star-Lord. Jack Huston, Eddie Redmayne, Glenn Howerton, and Adam Brody also tried out for the part.

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise has been a massive success, spawning two sequels: “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” in 2017 and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” in 2023. The films also featured a star-studded cast including Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Sean Gunn, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, and Pom Klementieff.

Despite missing out on the role, Edgerton continues to impress audiences with his versatile performances in various projects.
