Morgantown Softball Team Makes History with Record-Breaking Home Runs
In a stunning display of power hitting, the Morgantown Mohigans softball team made history by hitting a program single-game record of seven home runs in their game against defending state champion John Marshall. The Mohigans secured an 18-10 victory in just six innings, eliminating the reigning champions and securing their spot in the W.Va. Class AAA state softball championship.
Head coach Lori Lipscomb praised her team’s performance, noting the hard-fought battle against a formidable opponent. The top three hitters for Morgantown – Anne Robinson, Emily Peterson, and Maddie Wisman – combined for an impressive 10 hits and 13 RBI, leading the team to victory.
The win marks a significant milestone for the Morgantown softball program, as they had not won a sectional championship since the region was realigned. The victory also sets up an exciting matchup against intra-city rival University High in the Region I title series.
Despite the loss, John Marshall head coach Rob Blake commended the Mohigans for their strong performance and predicted success for them in the upcoming regional and state tournaments. The game marked the third meeting between the two teams in just eight days, with Morgantown emerging victorious in each encounter.
