John Wood’s Journey from Caddie to TV to Ryder Cup Team Manager

Reading Time: < 1 minute

John Wood, a familiar face in the world of golf, is set to take on a new role as the team manager for the U.S. Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black next year. With nine Ryder Cups under his belt as a caddie, team assistant, and on-course reporter for NBC, Wood brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new position.

The PGA Ryder Cup Committee handpicked Wood for this crucial role, citing his ability to consult with the captain, assistants, players, and PGA of America management on strategy and operational matters. Wood expressed his excitement, calling it a “dream job.”

While the U.S. captain for the 2025 matches is yet to be determined, Tiger Woods is a top contender and is currently in discussions with the PGA of America. Having Wood as the team manager could help alleviate some of the responsibilities typically associated with the captain’s job.

Seth Waugh, CEO of the PGA of America, praised Wood’s passion and dedication, highlighting his extensive experience in team competitions and match play dynamics. Wood’s involvement in player selection, recruitment, logistics, and fostering a positive team environment will be instrumental in shaping the U.S. team’s success at future Ryder Cups.

Despite his new role, Wood will continue to work as an NBC on-course reporter, except during the Ryder Cup. With the Americans looking to break their losing streak on European soil, Wood’s appointment brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of expertise to the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
