Cassadaga Valley’s Hunter Johnson is proving to be a valuable asset to his team this season, as he led the Cougars to a 4-2 victory over Maple Grove in a recent CCAA Division 2 baseball game. Johnson, a senior right-hander, pitched into the seventh inning, striking out 10 batters while only allowing two runs on nine hits and two walks.

Cassadaga Valley head coach Al Roller praised Johnson’s performance, stating, “Hunter’s a good kid and a great pitcher. He’s hitting the ball now, too.” Johnson’s strong pitching combined with the team’s offensive efforts secured the win for the Cougars.

In the early innings, Cassadaga Valley scored all four of their runs off Maple Grove’s junior pitcher Camden Lombardo. The Cougars capitalized on opportunities to steal bases and manufacture runs, with key hits from players like Greg Edson and Jackson Crowell.

Despite Maple Grove’s efforts to rally in the later innings, Cassadaga Valley’s pitching and defense held strong, ultimately securing the win. Roller also highlighted the contributions of relief pitcher Mason Rhodes, who came in to close out the game and secure the save.

With this win, Cassadaga Valley improves to a 4-3 record for the season, showcasing their potential in the competitive Division 2 baseball league. The team’s ability to execute both on the mound and at the plate bodes well for their future games, as they continue to strive for success in the league.
