Jon Bon Jovi, the iconic American singer-songwriter and guitarist, recently opened up about his struggles with vocal cord issues and how a conversation with his wife led him to seek help. In a new docuseries titled ‘Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story’, the 62-year-old rock legend revealed that he had been dealing with difficulties for at least seven years before embarking on the band’s most recent tour in 2022.

During a performance in Nashville, Bon Jovi thought he had given his all to the crowd, but his wife, Dorothea, gave him some tough love by telling him that it wasn’t great and that she had seen him be great before. This conversation was described by Bon Jovi as “beyond heartbreaking, it was devastating,” but he acknowledged that there was no one better than his wife to tell him the truth.

Following this wake-up call, Bon Jovi underwent vocal fold medialization surgery in the summer of 2022 to address his vocal issues. Nearly two years post-surgery, he continues to work with vocal coaches and do daily voice exercises as part of his recovery process.

Despite the challenges he faced, Bon Jovi remains dedicated to his music career. The band is set to release their 16th album, ‘Forever’, in June, with a new single titled “Legendary”. While his vocals may sound different post-surgery, Bon Jovi’s passion for music remains unwavering. The possibility of future tours with the band is still uncertain, but fans can look forward to hearing his smoky and husky voice on their upcoming album.
