Jonathan Pease’s Transition from Employee to Entrepreneur: A Journey of Diverse Careers

Renowned entrepreneur and advertising guru, Pease, credits his successful transition from employee to entrepreneur to his Master’s of Business degree from the University of Sydney. After more than a decade in the advertising industry, Pease knew he needed a solid business education to launch his own agency, Tongue, which he eventually sold to STW in 2017.

Pease emphasizes the importance of seeking out projects that complement each other, allowing for exponential growth and success. He advises clients to do the same, stating that by aligning multiple endeavors, they can achieve more than the sum of their parts.

During his time at the University of Sydney, Pease found inspiration in marketing professor Donnel Briley, who taught real-world case studies that resonated with him. This connection led to Pease now teaching communication skills through his Winning the Room workshops, a role he finds “enriching and rewarding.”

Reflecting on his academic journey, Pease admits to initially struggling with education, despite his passion for advertising and marketing. He recalls his disinterest in university, even planning a ski holiday during the start of his first semester and enlisting his mother to attend lectures on his behalf.

Despite his rocky start, Pease’s Master’s degree provided him with the necessary tools and knowledge to take the leap into entrepreneurship. He now combines his creative thinking with a deeper understanding of business concepts, leading to significant success in the industry.
