Julia Phelps, Chief Communications Officer of Paramount Global, to Depart

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Julia Phelps, the top communications veteran at Paramount Global, is set to leave the company at the end of the month. Phelps, who held the position of executive vp, chief communications, and corporate marketing officer, has been known for her strategic and collaborative approach during her time at the entertainment conglomerate.

Her departure comes amidst the recent exit of CEO Bob Bakish, who was replaced by an Office of the CEO. Paramount Global, controlled by Shari Redstone’s National Amusements, has been in talks about a potential sale to David Ellison’s Skydance Media and Sony with Apollo Global Management.

Phelps has played a significant role in the company’s evolution, having served in various senior positions at Paramount Global and its predecessors. She oversaw the communications team through the Viacom-CBS merger, the launch of Paramount+, and the rebrand to Paramount Global. Some of her notable initiatives include the global expansion of BET’s Content for Change campaign and the establishment of cross-company marketing and publicity functions.

In an internal memo obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Phelps expressed her pride in the team’s accomplishments and the challenges they have overcome together. While she did not address her future plans, she emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration in navigating the company through significant changes.

Phelps will be with the company through the end of the month to ensure a smooth transition. She expressed her gratitude to the team for their dedication and support, highlighting the passion and intelligence of the people she has had the privilege to work alongside.
