Julius Randle, Knicks forward, to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, reports say

New York Knicks forward Julius Randle’s season has come to an abrupt end as he prepares to undergo surgery on his right shoulder, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported. Randle has been sidelined since January 27 after dislocating his shoulder, and despite efforts to rehab and return for the playoffs, doctors have advised against it due to the risk of permanent damage.

The 29-year-old Randle was a key player for the Knicks, averaging 24 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5 assists per game before his injury. His absence has been felt by the team, as they have gone 15-14 without him, dropping from fourth to fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Randle, a three-time NBA All-Star, is expected to be ready for the 2024-25 season after undergoing surgery. The Knicks, under head coach Tom Thibodeau, are aiming for their third postseason appearance in four years and are currently just ahead of a play-in game spot with seven games left in the regular season.

The team had high hopes after acquiring OG Anunoby in December, but injuries have plagued the lineup. Anunoby has played just three games since Randle’s injury, dealing with his own right elbow issues. Despite the setbacks, the Knicks remain focused on finishing the season strong and making a playoff push.
