Jumpstart Your Summer Learning: Start Planning Now

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The North Carolina Early Childhood Foundation (NCECF) is gearing up for an exciting summer of learning with the release of their 2024 Toolkit for Summer Learning. This toolkit is designed to make summer reading a fun and engaging adventure for young learners, with resources crafted with insights from providers and parents.

Summer learning is crucial to prevent learning loss during school breaks, which can have a long-term impact on academic achievement. The toolkit includes resources for planning successful summer programs, engaging families, and promoting the importance of summer learning.

One of the key features of the toolkit is a 10-minute staff presentation on reading proficiency and the importance of summer learning. There is also an action plan template to help organize summer activities, as well as resources for easy sharing with families, including newsletter articles, social media posts, and text messages.

The Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, in collaboration with NCECF, has been working to ensure that more children from low-income families succeed in school and beyond. The goal is to create diverse and inclusive communities where young readers thrive from birth through third grade.

With the release of the 2024 Summer Learning Toolkit, NCECF and their partners are committed to promoting summer reading and learning across communities in North Carolina. This initiative aims to support children’s readiness for school, summer learning, and regular school attendance, setting them up for future success.
