Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s New Jersey Beach Home Flies Controversial Flag

A flag associated with the January 6 riot at the US Capitol was spotted flying outside the New Jersey beach home of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito multiple times last year, according to a recent report. The “Appeal to Heaven” flag, also known as the “Pine Tree flag” from the Revolutionary War, was seen outside Justice Alito’s vacation home during the summer of 2023.

This revelation comes after reports that an upside-down American flag was displayed on a flagpole at the judge’s Virginia property in late 2020 and early 2021, following Joe Biden’s inauguration. Both flags were symbols embraced by supporters of Donald Trump’s “Stop The Steal” campaign, which falsely claimed election fraud.

Photographs obtained by a newspaper, along with witness accounts, confirmed the presence of the “Appeal to Heaven” flag at the Alitos’ New Jersey home in July and September of 2023. Justice Alito has declined to comment on the matter.

The controversy surrounding the flags has reignited calls for Justice Alito to recuse himself from cases related to the January 6 attack and Trump’s election challenges. Critics argue that his apparent support for these symbols compromises his impartiality in deciding on these crucial legal matters.

Despite the mounting pressure, there has been no indication that Justice Alito plans to step aside from these cases. The debate over his involvement with these controversial flags continues to raise questions about his ability to fairly adjudicate on issues related to the events of January 6 and the 2020 election.
