Kalikesh Singh Deo announces that all Olympic-bound shooters will compete in Munich WC at NRAI’s urging

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has successfully convinced all shooters to participate in the upcoming World Cup in Munich, despite initial requests for exemption due to the gruelling Olympic Selection Trials. The federation has assured athletes that a flexible mechanism will be put in place to ensure they receive guidance from personal coaches during competitions.

NRAI senior vice-president Kalikesh Singh Deo stated, “We had a word with the shooters and all the shooters have chosen to go. However, we have given them very flexible requirements, because they’ve had a series of Olympic trials of late.”

While scores in World Championships, World Cups, and Asian Championships contribute to earning ranking points, there will be no pressure on shooters during the Munich event as no points will be awarded. The focus is on providing valuable international competition experience ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Personal coaches have been a point of contention between the NRAI and shooters, but the federation has announced plans to involve them in the training process moving forward. A common minimum training program will be developed involving the shooter, personal coach, national coach, and High-Performance Director to ensure comprehensive support.

From the Munich World Cup onwards, personal coaches will be allowed to travel with their wards, following a standard operating procedure. This decision aims to enhance the performance and support system for shooters as they prepare for major international competitions.
