Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has been appointed as the UNICEF India National Ambassador, marking a proud moment for the star. Having been associated with UNICEF India since 2014, Kareena will now support the organization in furthering every child’s right to early childhood development, health, education, and gender equality.
In a statement, the 43-year-old actor expressed her honor at continuing her association with UNICEF as India’s National Ambassador. She emphasized the importance of children’s rights and pledged to use her voice and influence to advocate for vulnerable children, particularly in the areas of early childhood, education, and gender equality.
UNICEF India has also appointed its first-ever Youth Advocates, who will serve as peer leaders and champions on various important issues. The four advocates include Gauranshi Sharma from Madhya Pradesh focusing on the right to play and disability inclusion, Kartik Verma from Uttar Pradesh advocating for climate action and child rights, singer Nahid Afrin from Assam working on mental health and early childhood development, and Vinisha Umashankar from Tamil Nadu as a budding innovator and STEM pioneer.
UNICEF India Representative Cynthia McCaffrey expressed her delight in welcoming Kareena Kapoor Khan as the National Ambassador, praising her energy and impact in supporting national and global campaigns. She highlighted the importance of working together with Kareena and the four Youth Advocates to continue advocating for child rights.
