Kari Lake Encourages Backers to Prepare for Election by Arming Themselves

Kari Lake, a Senate candidate in Arizona and a staunch ally of former President Donald J. Trump, has sparked controversy with her recent call for supporters to arm themselves ahead of the upcoming election. During a rally in Lake Havasu City, Lake urged her supporters to “strap on a Glock” and be prepared for an “intense” period leading up to the election.

“The next six months is going to be intense,” Lake declared to a cheering crowd. “We’re not going to be the victims of crime. We’re not going to have our Second Amendment taken away. We’re certainly not going to have our First Amendment taken away by these tyrants.”

This is not the first time Lake has made provocative statements regarding armed conflict. Last year, she warned that anyone wanting to harm President Trump would have to go through her and 75 million Americans like her, most of whom are members of the National Rifle Association.

Lake’s rhetoric is part of a larger trend of aggressive and violent language from Trump and his allies. Trump recently shared a video depicting President Biden hogtied, and has made inflammatory remarks about migrants and political opponents. Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas also recently endorsed the use of physical force against peaceful protesters.

When asked about Lake’s remarks, a campaign representative stated that she was referring to Arizonans’ Second Amendment right to defend themselves. However, Lake’s call to arms has raised concerns about the potential for violence and intimidation in the political arena.
