Karin Butyn Finds Solace in Running Half-Marathons
WHEELING – Karin Butyn’s journey into running began as a quest to discover more about herself, and now, a decade later, she finds solace in both half-marathons and her professional career.
At 33 years old, Butyn is currently serving as the director of communications and alumni relations for Ohio County Schools, after previously holding the position of assistant principal at Bridge Street Middle School.
“I started running about 10 years ago. I found I wasn’t super happy with myself. I was navigating being a young professional, and trying to find who I was as a person,” Butyn shared.
Her running journey began with a simple decision one day to become a runner. Starting with short distances, she gradually built up her mileage over time. Now, running has become a personal outlet for her.
While she has yet to tackle a full marathon, Butyn has completed 10 half-marathons, including the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic that she participated in over the weekend as part of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine.
Butyn emphasized the positive impact running has had on her life, both physically and mentally. She shared insights into her training routine, which includes a mix of short and long runs leading up to race day.
For Butyn, running is not just a physical activity but a form of self-care and personal growth. As she continues to lace up her running shoes, she finds joy and fulfillment in each stride she takes towards the finish line.
