Kazakhstan President prioritizes relief efforts for flood-affected individuals | Global News

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan recently chaired the 28th session of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (APK), focusing on the government’s response to severe floods that have affected the country for nearly a month.

During the session, President Tokayev highlighted the unity and togetherness shown by the people of Kazakhstan during the challenging times brought on by the flooding. He commended the coordinated efforts of the government, state agencies, specialized services, and volunteers in evacuating over 119,000 people, including nearly 45,000 children, in a timely manner.

The President also announced the launch of a large-scale campaign called “From Heart to Heart,” which has already delivered over 1,500 tonnes of food and essential goods worth approximately 770 million tenge to the affected areas. Additionally, he emphasized the involvement of 12,000 volunteers from ethnic-cultural associations in providing support to the victims of the floods.

In response to the natural disasters, the government has allocated funds for compensation, housing construction, and infrastructure restoration. President Tokayev outlined plans for the rapid reconstruction of damaged areas, with a focus on ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.

Furthermore, the President addressed the need to enhance measures for preventing future natural disasters, including rebuilding the water management system, modernizing water companies, and constructing new reservoirs to reduce flooding risks in various regions of Kazakhstan.

Overall, the session highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting those affected by the floods and implementing long-term strategies to mitigate the impact of natural disasters in the future.
