Kelly Wolgamott discusses travel at the Pure Michigan Tourism Conference

Key tourism industry providers and officials gathered at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism in Kalamazoo, where exciting developments and insights were shared.

Kelly Wolgamott, the director of “Travel Michigan” for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, emphasized the importance of visitors’ experiences in the state. She highlighted that 67% of vacationers find their home based on their visit to Michigan, showcasing the powerful impact of tourism on the state’s economy.

One success story is Liz Ware, who fell in love with Michigan and decided to make it her permanent home. She purchased the Mission Point Resort on Mackinac Island and has invested in rejuvenating the historic property, contributing to the state’s tourism industry.

In efforts to enhance the visitor experience, Eric Heffernan of Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry mentioned plans to introduce a digital baggage tag system for passengers. The company aims to provide a seamless and welcoming experience for guests, reflecting the state’s commitment to hospitality.

Justin Winslow, president and CEO of the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association, emphasized the importance of promoting Michigan as a great place to live and visit. He highlighted efforts to restore funding to the Pure Michigan Campaign to attract more visitors to the state.
