Kenya’s Defence Chief on Board Military Helicopter that Crashes | World News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A tragic incident unfolded in Kenya as a military helicopter carrying several top officials, including Defence Chief General Francis Omondi Ogolla, crashed in Elgeyo Marakwet county. The helicopter, which had more than 10 senior commanders on board, burst into flames upon impact.

President William Ruto swiftly called for an urgent meeting of the National Security Council following the devastating news. The purpose of the officials’ presence in the region was reportedly related to a security mission due to the deployment of Kenya Defence Forces soldiers in the area.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation regarding casualties from the crash. State House spokesman Hussein Mohamed issued a statement announcing the emergency meeting at State House Nairobi in response to the tragic event.

General Ogolla, who was 61 years old, had been appointed as Chief of the Defence Forces by President Ruto in April of the previous year. Despite past political differences, Ruto had recognized Ogolla’s qualifications and expertise in the military field.

Ogolla, a trained fighter pilot, had a long and distinguished career in the Kenya Defence Forces, culminating in his appointment as Chief of the Defence Forces. The crash has sent shockwaves through the nation, as the fate of the individuals on board remains uncertain. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks and sacrifices made by military personnel in the line of duty.
