Key Biden impeachment witness files defamation lawsuit against leading Democrat

Former business associate of Hunter Biden, Tony Bobulinski, is suing House Democrat Jamie Raskin for $20 million for allegedly defamatory comments made during the impeachment hearings of Joe Biden. Bobulinski, a star witness for the Republicans, claims that Raskin deliberately and maliciously besmirched his character.

Raskin, a vocal critic of the impeachment proceedings, had previously criticized Bobulinski’s testimony as “chaotic to the point of burlesque” and stated that Bobulinski did not provide any evidence of wrongdoing by President Biden or his involvement in his family’s business dealings.

The lawsuit points to social media posts by Raskin in which he sought to discredit Bobulinski’s testimony and insinuated links to Russian or Chinese agents. Bobulinski’s attorneys argue that these statements were false and damaging to his reputation.

Bobulinski’s team also accuses Raskin of working in tandem with fellow congressman Dan Goldman to defame him on social media. They claim that Raskin and Goldman have been targeting Bobulinski with defamatory posts.

This lawsuit is one of several filed by Bobulinski in recent months, including suits against former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson and Fox News pundit Jessica Tarlov. Bobulinski is seeking millions in damages in each case.

The Independent has reached out to both Raskin and Bobulinski for comment on the lawsuit. The legal battle between Bobulinski and Raskin highlights the contentious nature of the impeachment hearings and the ongoing political divisions in Washington.
