The Los Angeles Lakers are on the hunt for a new head coach, and their search has taken an interesting turn with reports suggesting that they view former NBA player JJ Redick as a potential candidate with Pat Riley-like coaching potential.
However, not everyone is convinced that Redick is the right man for the job. On a recent episode of “Undisputed,” Keyshawn Johnson dismissed the comparison between Redick and Riley, pointing out that while both men have NBA playing experience, the similarities end there.
Riley, who famously led the Lakers during their successful era in the 1980s, had previous coaching experience before taking on the head coaching role. In contrast, Redick has never been a head coach or even an assistant coach.
While Redick undoubtedly has a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience, Johnson expressed doubts about his ability to step into the head coaching role for a team like the Lakers, who are eager to win as soon as possible, especially with LeBron James nearing the end of his career.
The question remains: can Redick develop into a Riley-like leader for the Lakers, and how long will it take for him to reach that level? As the team looks to secure a coach who can lead them to success in the near future, the pressure is on to make the right choice for the next chapter of the franchise.
