Khoury Day: Longtime IM Business to Host Celebration and Final Sale | News, Sports, Jobs

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Iron Mountain will be celebrating Khoury Day on Friday at The Wishing Well gift shop, a beloved establishment that has been a staple in the downtown area for over 50 years. The day will honor the late owners, Don and Sharon Khoury, who operated the store until their passing.

Don Khoury, who passed away in late November, had announced his plans to close the business at the end of 2023 after 54 years of operation. His wife, Sharon, had passed away the previous March. The store has been closed since Don’s passing, but a week-long “last chance sale” has been taking place to clear out the remaining inventory.

Neighboring Spiro’s Downtown Restaurant will be providing food and drinks for visitors from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the celebration. The store has been restocked with the Khourys’ handmade treasures and other merchandise for the sale.

The Wishing Well was known for its rustic decorative items, bulk candy jars, and the sound of Don’s 1910 cash register. Don Khoury had planned to return to selling his handmade items at art and craft shows after closing the store.

The Iron Mountain City Council officially recognized Khoury Day in honor of the couple and their contributions to the community. The store has been a place where customers not only found unique gifts but also received prayers, support, and kindness from the Khourys. The celebration on Friday will be a fitting tribute to their legacy in Iron Mountain.
