India’s Archery Team Eyes Olympic Medal in Paris

Despite never having won an Olympic medal in archery, India’s national team and celebrated coach Kim Hyung Tak are optimistic about their chances at the upcoming Paris Games. With the recent success of securing a quota place and a stunning World Cup team gold victory over reigning champions South Korea, the Indian archers are on a high.

Coach Kim, who has previously guided South Korean women’s recurve team to Olympic gold, conducted a two-day camp for the Indian archers and noted the improvement in their performance. He highlighted the mix of experience and youth in the team, with seasoned archers like Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai mentoring the younger members.

The team is currently preparing for a qualification tournament in Turkey next month to secure a team quota for the Paris Games. Kim emphasized the importance of constant collaboration and high-level training programs in their quest for an elusive Olympic medal.

With his expertise in utilizing technology for training, Kim was impressed by the coaching facilities at the SAI National Centre of Excellence in Sonipat. He believes that the detailed training provided to the archers, combined with the guidance of experienced players, will be crucial in their build-up to the Olympics.
