Kinéis and Semtech transform satellite connectivity access with new terrestrial IoT chip

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Kinéis, a French satellite operator, and Semtech, a global provider of high-performance semiconductors, have joined forces to make satellite connectivity more accessible for the Internet of Things (IoT). This collaboration integrates satellite and terrestrial IoT into a single electronic chip, providing global coverage to millions of users in a simple and direct manner.

The partnership allows users of Semtech LoRa Edge™ chips to leverage Kinéis satellite connectivity alongside terrestrial LoRaWAN® connectivity without the need for additional electronic modules. This integration enables the creation of hybrid terrestrial-satellite devices supporting multiple standard connectivity protocols.

With the Semtech LR1110 chips, users can enhance their applications by receiving data via terrestrial LoRaWAN connectivity when available, switching to Kinéis satellite IoT connectivity elsewhere, and receiving complementary location data to GNSS information.

Alexandre Tisserant, President of Kinéis, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “This strategic collaboration meets market demand to combine the best available terrestrial and satellite networks, offering our customers continuous and absolutely global service, operating simply and transparently.”

The Kinéis-Semtech offering has been highly anticipated by the IoT ecosystem, with companies like Beepings welcoming the partnership. Beepings, a developer of autonomous tracking solutions, sees the collaboration as a way to simplify access to satellite IoT and reduce solution costs. The President of Beepings, Pierre Fourmestraux, is already exploring new application fields based on Kinéis spatial connectivity.

Overall, the collaboration between Kinéis and Semtech is set to revolutionize the IoT industry by providing seamless and efficient global connectivity for a wide range of applications.
