King Charles of Britain is set to resume public duties next week after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. The 75-year-old king has been making good progress following treatment and a period of recuperation, according to Buckingham Palace.

In February, it was revealed that King Charles had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer after tests conducted following a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate. Despite the diagnosis, the king continued with official state business but postponed public engagements to focus on treatment and rest.

A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace stated, “His majesty’s treatment programme will continue, but doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that the king is now able to resume a number of public-facing duties.” The spokesperson also mentioned that the medical team is optimistic about the king’s continued recovery.

To mark his return to public duties, King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit a cancer treatment centre in London next Tuesday. Additionally, the palace confirmed that the Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will pay a state visit in late June.

While the king’s health scare has been a cause for concern, his family has also faced health challenges. His daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, is undergoing preventative chemotherapy after tests revealed the presence of cancer following major abdominal surgery.

As King Charles prepares to step back into his royal duties, the palace emphasized that his plans will be carefully crafted in consultation with his medical team to ensure his continued recovery. The king’s return to public life comes less than 18 months into his reign and less than a year since his coronation, marking a significant moment in his royal tenure.
