Reading Time: < 1 minute

On a chilly Tuesday evening, the Marquette varsity soccer team faced off against Kingsford in a fierce battle at Commemorative Field. Despite the biting wind and freezing temperatures, both teams fought hard for the win.

The Sentinels took the lead early in the game, with Anabel Ollila scoring a deep shot to put Marquette ahead 1-0. Lily Eberhard extended their lead to 2-0 with a well-placed shot from the penalty arc. Just two minutes later, Eberhard found the back of the net again, making it a 3-0 game in favor of the Sentinels.

However, the Flivvers didn’t back down. Ingrid Holt scored a goal with 22 minutes remaining in the game, bringing Kingsford within striking distance at 3-1. Despite both teams having more chances to score, the game ended with Marquette emerging victorious.

Kingsford’s head coach, Jenette Gunville, praised senior goalie Alaina Kowalski for her standout performance in the challenging conditions. Gunville also acknowledged the team’s need to work on certain aspects of their game but commended their effort in the cold weather.

Looking ahead, the Flivvers will head to the Superior Dome for two games on Friday. They will have a rematch against Marquette at 3 p.m. followed by a game against Boyne City at 5 p.m. Despite the tough loss, Kingsford remains determined to bounce back and showcase their skills in the upcoming matches.
