Kipchumba, Thornsberry, and Ukomadu Secure Medals on Day One of ASUN Outdoor Championships

The Eastern Kentucky University Track and Field team made a strong showing on the first day of the Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Championships in Conway, Arkansas. Three Colonels stood out by earning medals and contributing to the team’s overall success.

John Ukomadu, in his final college meet, secured a gold medal in the high jump with a season-best 2.00m jump. This victory marked the second consecutive gold in the high jump for EKU, following Joshua Moore’s win at the 2024 ASUN Indoor Championships. Enock Kipchumba and Keeton Thornsberry also impressed, with Kipchumba earning a silver medal in the 10,000 meters and Thornsberry taking home the bronze with a personal-best time.

On the women’s side, Senda Garma led the scoring with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw. Sonia Koech, Saskia Pingpank, and Lucy Thornton achieved personal-best times in the 10,000 meters, contributing valuable points to the team’s total.

Looking ahead, five Colonels have qualified for the finals in the men’s 1,500 meters, with Taha Er Raouy setting a facility record. The team is currently tied for third place on the men’s side and in fourth place on the women’s side after the first day of competition.
