Veteran actor and sitting BJP MP from Chandigarh, Kirron Kher, has announced that she will not be contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. In a recent interview with Times Now, Kirron clarified that she had requested to be exempted from contesting this time, citing her battle with cancer as the reason.

Kirron, who recently underwent treatment for multiple myeloma, met with party president JP Nadda and Union Home Affairs Minister Amit Shah to express her desire to sit out this election. She explained, “I had to be in Mumbai for about a year for my treatment. By the grace of God, I am completely fine now. But I missed out on that year in Chandigarh. And I don’t want my party to suffer because of my absence.”

During the interview, Kirron also revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had contacted her when she fell ill, reassuring her not to worry about missing Parliament sessions. She expressed her gratitude for his kindness and support during her health struggles.

Despite not contesting the elections, Kirron expressed her eagerness to continue contributing to her party in other ways. She mentioned her participation in India’s Got Talent and expressed her hope to work for the party again in the future.

Kirron also recalled the encouraging words from Amit Shah, acknowledging her efforts as a party worker in Chandigarh. Her decision to step back from the elections reflects her commitment to her health and her party’s well-being.
