Kiski Area High School Tennis Players Serve Up Success with Newly Restored Courts
After years of playing on cracked and worn-out courts, the tennis players at Kiski Area High School finally have a home court they can be proud of. The Kiski Area School District recently unveiled five newly restored tennis courts with a vibrant U.S. Open-style blue and green color palette, making them the envy of the section.
According to Superintendent Jason Lohr, the milling, paving, and painting of the courts cost about $280,000. The district had to rebid the project last August after initial bids came in higher than expected. Athletic director John Peterman, who is set to retire in June, noted that it had been over 15 years since the courts received any significant upgrades.
Despite some delays due to poor weather, the tennis teams were able to break in the new courts with a friendly match and pizza party. Graduating senior and boys captain Cole Graf had the honor of cutting the ribbon and hitting the first ball on the freshly painted surface.
Longtime tennis coach Trent Goerk expressed his satisfaction with the project, giving credit to Peterman and the parents of the players for advocating for the much-needed renovations. With the new courts in place, the team is optimistic about their chances of making a playoff run next season.
The players, especially the seniors, made sacrifices this year as most of their matches were played away from home. However, with the improved facilities, they are confident that they will have a competitive edge in the upcoming season. The Kiski Area tennis team is ready to serve up success on their newly upgraded courts.
