Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Harshit Rana has landed himself in hot water once again after being suspended for one match and fined 100 per cent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Kolkata.
Rana, who had previously been fined for a similar offence earlier in the season, was seen pointing his hand towards Abhishek Porel, indicating him to go back to the pavilion, and was about to give another flying kiss before stopping himself. This incident occurred after he cleaned up Porel during the match.
The IPL released a statement confirming Rana’s suspension, stating that he had committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Rana accepted the Match Referee’s sanction, and it was deemed final and binding.
This is not the first time Rana has found himself in trouble this season. In KKR’s IPL opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was fined for two Level 1 offences under the same article of the Code of Conduct.
Rana, who is KKR’s joint leading wicket-taker, will now miss the next match against Mumbai Indians. His absence will be a blow to the team as they look to maintain their winning momentum in the tournament.
The incident has once again raised questions about player conduct on the field and the need for stricter enforcement of the Code of Conduct to maintain the spirit of the game.
