Norway Softball Team Secures Thrilling Win Against Crandon
In a thrilling matchup at Marion Park on Monday, the Norway varsity softball team pulled off a remarkable comeback to secure a 5-4 victory over Crandon. Despite falling behind early in the game, the Knights rallied together and never gave up hope.
The game-changing moment came in the final inning when sophomore Kara Stanchina made a bold move on the basepaths. With a keen eye for an opportunity, Stanchina noticed a gap in Crandon’s defense and took advantage of it. She stole third base and then capitalized on an overthrow to score the winning run for Norway.
Head coach Bob ‘Kuba’ Bal praised Stanchina for her decisive play, highlighting her maturity and composure on the field. Stanchina also showcased her skills as a pitcher, striking out eight batters in four innings of work to help secure the win for the Knights.
Despite facing an early deficit, Norway showed resilience and determination, chipping away at Crandon’s lead inning by inning. The team’s efforts paid off as they scored crucial runs in the fifth and sixth innings to set the stage for Stanchina’s heroics in the seventh.
Bal commended his team for their growth and progress, emphasizing the importance of making plays and seizing opportunities on the field. With contributions from multiple players, including Stanchina, Elizabeth Romitti, and Jordyn Moln, the Knights displayed a well-rounded performance.
