Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a thrilling match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made history by equaling the record for most wins at a particular venue in the Indian Premier League (IPL). With their victory over Mumbai Indians, KKR now have 52 wins at their home ground, matching the record set by the five-time champions at the Wankhade Stadium.

The match, which was reduced to a 16-over contest due to rain, saw KKR put up a total of 157/7 with valuable contributions from Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, and Rinku Singh. In response, Mumbai Indians got off to a strong start with Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma putting up a 65-run opening stand. However, KKR’s spinners turned the game around, restricting MI to 139/8 in their 20 overs.

Varun Chakravarthy was the star bowler for KKR, picking up 2 wickets for just 17 runs. Andre Russell and Harshit Rana also chipped in with crucial wickets. With this win, KKR became the first team to secure a spot in the playoffs of IPL 2024.

Currently, KKR sits at the top of the points table with 18 points from 9 wins and 3 losses, while MI is at the bottom with 8 points from 4 wins and 9 losses. The match was a testament to KKR’s resilience and determination, as they continue their quest for a third IPL title.
