Kongsberg Discovery, a leading provider of autonomous underwater vehicles, has successfully completed factory acceptance testing of its first long-range AUV, the HUGIN Endurance. The sea trials, which began in September 2023, have showcased the impressive capabilities of this cutting-edge technology.

Over the past few months, the Kongsberg Discovery Uncrewed Platforms team has rigorously tested and refined the HUGIN Endurance, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of performance. The sea trials culminated in March 2024 with a successful demonstration of the AUV’s capabilities to the customer.

The HUGIN Endurance program has generated significant interest from both the defense sector and commercial operators. With the ability to accommodate a wide range of payloads, including seabed mapping, oceanography, offshore wind park surveys, and subsea infrastructure surveillance, the HUGIN Endurance is a versatile and powerful tool for various applications.

Launched in 2021, the HUGIN Endurance is the largest member of Kongsberg Discovery’s HUGIN family of AUVs. Equipped with a variety of standard sensors, including a high-resolution synthetic aperture sonar, multibeam echo sounder, and environmental sensors, the AUV is capable of collecting valuable data for a range of purposes.

With the ability to operate autonomously from shore and a long endurance of up to 15 days at sea, the HUGIN Endurance represents a significant advancement in underwater exploration technology. The AUV’s new advancements, including greater redundancy and autonomous mission management, ensure its ability to handle long-term missions with ease.
