Logan Kuloloia’s stellar performance on the mound led Maui High School to a 4-0 victory over Kamehameha Maui on Tuesday. The senior left-hander pitched a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits while striking out one batter. With this win, Maui High improved to 9-1 in the Maui Interscholastic League Division I race, putting them on the brink of clinching the regular-season title and a state tournament berth.

Kuloloia, who used 108 pitches to finish the shutout, expressed his determination and focus on the game. He credited his curveball and change-up for their effectiveness, despite struggling with his fastball towards the end of the game. The Sabers’ defense also played a crucial role in supporting Kuloloia throughout the game.

Maui High capitalized on opportunities to score runs, taking advantage of wild pitches and walks by Kamehameha Maui’s pitchers. The team’s performance on both offense and defense showcased their determination to secure a spot in the state tournament.

Head coach Chase Corniel emphasized the importance of this win for Maui High, especially after last season’s disappointment. The team’s seniors are focused on achieving their goal of winning the MIL overall championship.

Kamehameha Maui, on the other hand, has lost four straight games and is now locked into the third seed for the upcoming MIL tournament. Despite the loss, head coach Shane Dudoit commended Kuloloia for his outstanding performance and looks forward to the competitive tournament ahead.

With one more win needed to clinch the regular-season title, Maui High is determined to finish strong and secure their spot in the state tournament. The team’s resilience and skill on the field make them a formidable contender in the upcoming playoffs.
