Kyiv accuses Putin of targeting energy facilities in overnight drone attack in Russia Ukraine war

Russian drones attacked energy facilities in overnight raids on Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions, Ukraine’s military has said. Nine drones were shot down over Dnipropetrovsk region, causing two fires in the regional capital of Dnipro. In Kirovohrad region, a drone hit a high voltage substation, resulting in a fire. The Ukrenergo grid operator confirmed the incident, but no casualties were reported.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Ukrainian forces repelled a Russian battalion-sized mechanized assault near Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast. Geolocated imagery showed a large number of destroyed and damaged Russian armored vehicles and tanks, with at least 20 losses on the Russian side.

Kyiv’s military administration disclosed that Russia had fired five hypersonic Zircon missiles at the Ukrainian capital city since the beginning of the year. These missiles, part of Russia’s new generation of weapons systems, have a range of 1,000km and travel at nine times the speed of sound.

The ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated, with both sides engaging in strategic attacks and counterattacks.
