Kyrgyzstan Reacts to India’s Advisory

The situation in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, has been described as calm and under control by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following a series of mob violence incidents against foreign students. The ministry assured that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure security and maintain peace and stability in the city.

However, the ministry also highlighted that there are destructive forces spreading false information about the situation in the country, particularly targeting foreign media outlets and social networks, including those in Pakistan. The Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan has advised Indian students to stay indoors and provided a helpline contact number for assistance.

Reports indicate that several incidents of mob violence against foreign students have occurred in Bishkek, with hospitals of medical universities and private residences of international students being attacked. The Pakistan embassy in Kyrgyzstan stated that the violence seems to be directed towards all foreign students, not specific to any nationality.

In response to the situation, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the country’s Ambassador to provide necessary help and assistance to Pakistani students in Bishkek. The Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry has also made a demarche with Kyrgyzstan to ensure the safety and security of Pakistani students and citizens in the country.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has emphasized the need for Indian students to stay in touch with the embassy and assured that the situation is reportedly calm now. The ministry urged journalists and bloggers to only publish official and confirmed information from the competent authorities in Kyrgyzstan.
