La Jolla News Highlights: Graduations, National Charity League, scientific achievements, and more

Graduation season is upon us in La Jolla, with high school students eagerly preparing for their commencement ceremonies and the next chapter of their lives. The Bishop’s School and La Jolla Country Day School will kick off the festivities on May 31 at 10 a.m., while La Jolla High School will follow suit on June 6 at 3 p.m. Last year, La Jolla High made history by awarding diplomas to 100 percent of its senior class.

Meanwhile, Torrey Pines Elementary School took the time to honor its dedicated volunteers at a special assembly on May 20. Principal Keith Keiper expressed gratitude for the invaluable contributions of these volunteers, who play a crucial role in making the school a special place for students.

In another celebration of community service, the San Diego chapter of the National Charity League recognized its class of 2024 “Ticktockers” for their impressive philanthropic efforts. These young women have collectively completed over 3,700 hours of volunteer service, making a positive impact on their community.

On the scientific front, Salk Institute professor Satchidananda Panda has been named a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his groundbreaking work in chronobiology. His research has shed light on the body’s internal clock and its implications for human health.

Lastly, the La Jolla Institute for Immunology and Global Autoimmune Institute has developed a new method for assessing protein changes in the body, offering exciting possibilities for understanding immune system function and potential treatments for diseases.
