Lance Klusener Criticizes Lack of Quality Death Bowling in IPL 2024, Believes Teams Exploiting Weakness

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Lucknow Super Giants assistant coach Lance Klusener has pointed out the lack of effective death bowling as the reason behind the high totals in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Klusener expressed his disappointment with the bowling performances throughout the competition, stating that teams have been able to take advantage due to the absence of good death bowling.

The economy rate in the death overs this season has skyrocketed to 12 runs per over, the highest ever recorded in the history of the IPL. Klusener believes that bowlers are overthinking and overcomplicating their approach in the crunch phase, instead of focusing on executing simple skills like bowling yorkers.

Rajasthan Royals, led by Sanju Samson, have been the most successful team in terms of death bowling this season, boasting the best economy rate in the period. Their ability to pick up wickets in the PowerPlay has allowed their spinners to bowl with pressure, ultimately leading to their success in restricting opposition teams.

In their recent match against Rajasthan Royals, Lucknow Super Giants struggled with their death bowling, conceding 53 runs in the final four overs and ultimately losing the game. Klusener emphasized the need for his team to be more clinical in their performances and to maintain consistency in both batting and bowling.

With the loss, Lucknow’s playoff hopes hang in the balance, as a win for Chennai Super Kings in their upcoming match could displace them from the playoff spots. Klusener remains optimistic about his team’s chances, acknowledging that they are still in control of their destiny and have the opportunity to turn things around in the remaining fixtures.
