Megan Myers Named Chair of Department of World Languages and Cultures at Iowa State University

Megan Myers, an associate professor of Spanish at Iowa State University, has been appointed as the new chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Myers will officially begin her five-year term on July 1, taking over from interim chair Michael Bailey.

Benjamin Withers, the dean of LAS, expressed his excitement about working with Myers, highlighting her reputation as an educator and scholar. Withers believes that Myers’ leadership will bring a fresh perspective and entrepreneurial vision to the department, fostering a vibrant community within and beyond the campus.

Myers, who joined Iowa State in 2016, holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic literature and has a strong background in Caribbean studies. Her research focuses on the interconnections between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, as well as the Hispanic Caribbean and its diasporas. She has received numerous awards for her teaching and research, including a Fulbright Award and the LAS International Service Award.

Brad Dell, chair of the Department of Music and Theatre and search committee chair, praised Myers for her collaborative approach and forward-thinking leadership. Myers herself is eager to lead the department towards continued growth and excellence, emphasizing the importance of clear assessment plans, curriculum revisions, and strategic recruitment efforts.
