Laura Fennell, a familiar face at Marshall Middle School, was recently honored with the Friend of Education award by the Marshall Education Association. Fennell, who works in the Student Services office, was recognized for her dedication and support to the students and staff at MMS.

In her role, Fennell helps students with a variety of issues, from class schedules to providing a listening ear for those having a tough day. Her friendly and encouraging attitude has made her a standout member of the MMS community.

Fennell, who has been in Marshall since 2008, was surprised by the recognition, especially since it’s only her second year at MMS. She previously managed Shopko Optical in Marshall but found the Student Services position to be a better fit due to her children being in school.

Members of the MEA praised Fennell for exceeding expectations and being a positive presence in the office. Fennell expressed her gratitude for the positive experiences she has had at MMS, from the diverse work to the relationships she has built with the students.

As the school year comes to an end, Fennell will miss the eighth graders moving on but is grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students and staff. She emphasized the importance of being a friendly face for those who may be going through challenges.

Overall, Fennell’s dedication to the well-being of the MMS community has not gone unnoticed, and she continues to be a valued member of the school.
