After 16 years of coaching the Warren girls basketball team, Lisa LaVan has decided to step down as the head coach. LaVan leaves behind an impressive legacy, with 268 wins, four District 10 championships, and a historic PIAA playoff win in her final season.

Under LaVan’s leadership, the Lady Dragons achieved great success, winning close to 70% of their games and securing multiple D10 titles. Her daughters, Emma, Gracie, and Sammie, all played for her team, with Emma continuing her basketball career at Hillsdale and Sammie set to play at D’Youville in the fall.

Reflecting on her time as coach, LaVan expressed gratitude for the support of her family, players, and assistant coaches. She emphasized the importance of creating a family atmosphere within the team and instilling values of hard work and resilience in her players.

As she looks ahead to the future, LaVan plans to support her daughters in their endeavors and explore new opportunities, including refereeing and potentially returning to coaching when the time is right. She leaves behind a lasting impact on the Warren community and the players she mentored.

The announcement of LaVan’s departure has been met with an outpouring of appreciation and admiration from players, parents, and fans. Her dedication and passion for the game have left a lasting impression on all those who had the privilege of being a part of her basketball family.
