Robbie Fletcher, the current Superintendent of Lawrence County Schools, is set to take on a new role as the Kentucky Department of Education commissioner starting July 1. Despite his upcoming transition, Fletcher remains committed to staying connected with students and the community.
Fletcher, who began his career as a math and science teacher before moving up to the position of principal, expressed his desire to remain engaged with school activities, such as attending football games and academic team meets. He emphasized the importance of being present and involved in the lives of students.
As he prepares to assume his new responsibilities, Fletcher plans to work closely with Superintendent Pollio of the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) district. He aims to address issues such as bus driver recruitment and teacher pay, advocating for increased resources to support educators.
Additionally, Fletcher supports initiatives such as universal pre-K and respecting the pronouns of transgender students. He also voiced his opposition to a proposed constitutional amendment that would allocate state funds to charter schools.
Despite the challenges ahead, Fletcher remains grateful for the support and respect he has received from the students of Lawrence County. As he embarks on this new chapter in his career, he carries with him a deep appreciation for the community that has shaped him over the past decade.
