Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra are once again making headlines, but this time for all the wrong reasons. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached their assets worth a whopping Rs 98 crore, including their luxurious Juhu flat, in connection with a Bitcoin Ponzi scam investigation.
Raj Kundra, who was previously embroiled in a pornography case in 2021, is now facing the heat from the ED over his alleged involvement in a bitcoin Ponzi scam. The federal agency has stated that the couple’s assets amounting to Rs 97.79 crore have been seized under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED’s probe into the money laundering case was initiated following FIRs filed in Maharashtra and Delhi against a company named Variable Tech Pte Ltd, along with several individuals. It is alleged that these individuals collected a staggering Rs 6,600 crore by promising investors a 10% monthly return in the form of Bitcoins, only to cheat them and hide the illegal proceeds in online wallets.
According to the ED, Raj Kundra received 285 Bitcoins from the mastermind of the Gain Bitcoin Ponzi scam, Amit Bhardwaj, for setting up a Bitcoin mining farm in Ukraine. The current value of these Bitcoins is estimated to be over Rs 150 crore.
In response to these allegations, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s legal team has issued a statement affirming their commitment to cooperating with the authorities and following due process to protect their rights. The couple maintains their innocence and expresses confidence in the judicial system to deliver justice in this matter.
