Students from Davis & Elkins College showcased their teaching-related research during the 14th annual Kump Education Research Seminar held at the Kump House in Elkins. The event, which took place in the Learning Lab of the historic house, provided a platform for education majors to present their experiences while teaching in local schools.
Under the guidance of Dr. Scott Biola and department chair Melanie Gribble, students presented on topics such as “The Science of Reading” and “21st Century Strategies for Evaluating Online Sources.” The event highlighted the research efforts of D&E students both in their college classes and during their student teaching experiences.
Nanci Bross-Fregonara, the Kump Education Center Communications Specialist, commended the students for integrating their college coursework skills into real-world teaching environments. She expressed admiration for the students’ ability to apply their knowledge and skills to enhance the learning experiences of young students.
The presentations covered a range of topics including reading systems, ADHD and memory, skills development for students with autism, and evaluating online digital sources. The students, including Kelsey Mahanes, Hannah Phillips, and Marshall Mounts, demonstrated a deep understanding of modern teaching methods and a commitment to incorporating technology into their future classrooms.
The Kump Education Center, known for providing professional development for teachers and outdoor education opportunities, continues to support innovative teaching practices. The annual seminar serves as a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of the next generation of educators in shaping the future of education.
