Bayer Leverkusen’s Unbeaten Streak Continues in Dramatic Europa League Semifinal

In a thrilling Europa League semifinal match on Thursday, Bayer Leverkusen managed to keep its treble bid alive and extend its remarkable unbeaten streak to 49 matches with a late equalizer against Roma. Substitute Josip Stanisic’s goal in stoppage time rescued a 2-2 draw for Leverkusen, securing a spot in the final.

The match seemed to be slipping away from Leverkusen after two Leandro Paredes penalties put Roma ahead 2-0 on the night and 2-2 on aggregate. However, an own goal by Roma’s Gianluca Mancini and Stanisic’s equalizer turned the tide in Leverkusen’s favor, sending them through to the final with a 4-2 aggregate victory.

“It’s pure goosebumps!” exclaimed Granit Xhaka after the match. Leverkusen’s ability to score crucial goals in the dying minutes has been a hallmark of their season, with this being their 17th goal in the 90th minute or later across all competitions.

Roma, missing star forward Paulo Dybala, put up a tough fight but ultimately fell short against Leverkusen’s resilience. The match was filled with drama, including two penalties awarded to Roma and a series of near misses for Leverkusen.

With the win, Leverkusen will face Atalanta in the Europa League final on May 22 in Dublin. Atalanta secured their spot in the final with a dominant victory over Marseille, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between two top European clubs.

The final promises to be a thrilling encounter, with Leverkusen looking to cap off their impressive season with a European trophy while Atalanta aims to make history with their first European title. Fans can expect a nail-biting finale as these two teams battle it out for glory.
