Liberals Push for Biden to Hold Big Business Accountable for Inflation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

President Biden is facing a tough re-election battle as high prices at grocery stores, gas pumps, and pharmacies have soured many voters on his first term. In response, he has developed a populist riposte: blaming big corporations for inflation, not himself.

Despite the economic issues taking center stage in the upcoming election, Mr. Biden has not fully embraced this message as some other Democrats have. Senators like Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Sherrod Brown of Ohio have made corporate greed a centerpiece of their campaigns and are outperforming Mr. Biden in polls.

Progressives are urging Mr. Biden to follow suit and make “greedflation” a driving theme of his re-election bid. They believe that taking on big business could strengthen his Main Street vs. Wall Street argument against former President Donald J. Trump, especially with working-class voters of color.

While Mr. Biden has made efforts to combat corporate pricing practices in certain sectors, some progressives feel he could be more forceful in his condemnation of big corporations. They argue that blaming corporations for price increases is a winning message for Democrats and could resonate with voters.

Overall, the debate over corporate greed and its impact on inflation is shaping up to be a central issue in the upcoming election. Mr. Biden’s approach to addressing this issue and holding corporations accountable could play a significant role in determining the outcome of the election.
